Visit Cannes to Experience Glamour and Grandeur on the French Riviera

When anybody mentions Cannes, there’s one thing that will inevitably spring to mind: The Cannes International Film Festival. The Festival, which has been held since 1946, is the biggest awards event in Europe, and leads the way in classical glitz and glamour. The world’s biggest names flock to the city on an annual basis, paparazzi following closely behind. While there’s no getting round the fact that Cannes enjoys the level of fame it does due to the film festival, this glamorous destination has so much more to offer.

Film festival aside, it’s not hard to see why Cannes is such a desirable tourist spot. Nestled on the South Coast of France, along the picturesque French Riviera, you’re greeted on arrival by a glorious Mediterranean climate, meaning sunshine and warm weather throughout the summer, and comfortably-mild weather in the winter. To the north is the Mercantour National Park, complete with mile after mile of lush rolling hills, perfect if you’re in the mood for hiking or mountain biking. The 7.5km of beaches along the coast are some of the most popular attractions in the city, and they’re within walking distance from the Hotel Amarante Cannes. The golden sand and crystal-blue waters are perfect for trying your hand at thrilling water sports, or simply taking it easy with a cocktail in one hand and a good book in the other.

Just off the beach is the Boulevard de la Croisette, famous for its designer brands and luxury boutiques. Hugo Boss, Gucci, Hermes, Dior and countless more high-end brands are to be found on this extravagant beach-front street. Away from the opulence of the boulevard, the charming Rue Meynadier is the place to go for independent shops, and you can pick up some unique finds if you keep a sharp eye.

If all that satisfies your appetite for retail therapy, then the dining and nightlife will certainly hit the spot too. The city has a fine selection of casinos, including the famous Casino Juan les Pins, where the likes of Edith Piaf, Scott Fitzgerald and Coco Chanel all liked to frequent from time-to-time. The choice of restaurants, bars and nightclubs is equally mouth-watering. The Palme d’Or, with its two Michelin Stars, is perfect if you’re looking to start your evening in the most lavish way possible, while the Carre d’Or (Golden Square) is home to the nightclubs of choice for the rich and famous, all with guest lists that are reassuringly tricky to get your name on.

It’s not all shopping, fine dining and partying, however, as Cannes is home to some of France’s most popular museums and tourist attractions. You can make the short boat ride to St. Marguerite’s Island, where the legendary Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned, which provides a stark contrast to the extravagance that lies barely a mile across the Mediterranean Sea. The city is also dotted with fascinating museums, such as the Castre Museum, filled with historic antiques that are housed in a fittingly-historic castle.

Inspired by the success of the film festival, Cannes has established itself as one of the leading destinations for exhibitions, festivals and conferences. The Cannes Lion International Festival of Creativity is widely considered to be the world’s biggest advertising festival, while the television, music, travel and retail industries all host some of their biggest trade shows in the city.

It’s easy to see why Cannes has established itself as one of the hottest tickets in luxury travel. Whether you’re treating yourself to a holiday, or visiting on business, the Hotel Amarante Cannes is perfectly located in the centre of the city.
